Biker

I am seeing more and more of these 'fold-up' bikes around London streets. Are other cities seeing them as well?

I haven't seen bikes like those around here, probably because Bostonians are a lot lazier than Londoners... (those wheels are a bit small, aren't they?).

I can't say I've ever seen a fold up bike before but they look interesting!

uuuhm...I've never seen these before, either. Mobay is not a bicycle friendly town so it's not likely they will be popular here.

Why do they fold up? Is it for security or just to conserve on space?

It looks like a nice little bike, if well-made it would make a lot of sense to have one---great to put in your car in case you break down on a lonely country road miles from nowhere! Great to take on long road trips too.

Downtown Nyack sits right on the river with a horseshoe of mtns surrounding it. Bicyclists stick to the flat riverside roads and are not local people. (Their route is NYC to Nyack) anyway, we only get those very serious riders that wear the funny shoes and hats passing thru. . For us locals, steep hills are scary to bike up. (and down).
