Skywatch Friday - Giant Sun

A couple of days ago a heavy pollution mist hung over London but it was made beautiful by the largest sun you can imagine. I don't think I have ever seen it so large in this part of the world. It slowly melted down over the buildings in the distance. At one point looking like a large lollipop as it slithered down a crane in the distance.

Skywatch Friday - View from up high

Another image taken with my Samsung New Wave II for the Now Project.
All is not quite as it seems. This was taken out of the plane window not far from Barcelona. What appears to be the sun or moon in the sky is really a reflection from the sun on the plane window. I rather liked the effect it gives though. How about you?

Oh and this time the colour is real!

Skywatch Friday - Terminal Five

A disappointing afternoon spent at Heathrow airport yesterday searching for my missing luggage from December. Hundreds and hundreds of bags separated from their owners, more arriving every few minutes.
However seeing this sunset returned my smiles
It's been awhile since I posted a skywatch, how long since you visited them. You'll find them here.

When London does a blue sky it is stunning. This statue is part if the grand Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens. Each corner represents the four corners of the world. This corner is a tribute to the Americas.

Skywatch Friday - Rail Yard

It's been awhile since I did a skywatch, but last night the light and colours in the sky were too beautiful to ignore.
The rail yards at the back of Kings Cross with the BT tower in the background seemed to shine in the light.

Skywatch Friday - Sir Keith Park

The New Zealand RAF commander Sir Keith Park was such a formidable commander during the Battle of Britain and the Battle of Malta, that the Germans nick named him 'The Defender of London'.
His statue was on the 4th plinth at Trafalgar Square from November 2009 until May 2010.

Skywatch Friday - Birthday Flyover

The Queen's official birthday celebrations were held last Saturday. After the official parade, the trooping of the colours, the royal party return to Buckingham Palace and greet the crowds from the balcony. This is followed by a flyover by the RAF, 29 planes in all in various formations. The last being the pictured red arrows.

Skywatch Friday - Mt Pleasant

The Royal mail sorting centre in Mt Pleasant isn't the prettiest of places, however a couple of weeks ago the sky momentarily changed that and painted the whole area with beautiful pinks and blues.

Skywatch Friday - Thames

Although London has the reputation of the city of grey skies, it isn't actually constantly grey. Sure there are grey days but equally there are blue skies, cloudy skies and magical sunsets. Throw in a river that rises and falls 8 metres with the tide, with history of battles and bridges, intrigue and murder and you start to fell the magic of London.

Skywatch Friday - A walk in the Park

London is one of the biggest cities in the world yet 60% of greater London is green space. No wonder I feel squeezed in against the neighbours.
No really it makes it one of the most amazing big cities to live in.

We are being treated to lovely blue skies at present.
Make sure you visit wonderful skies around the world today courtesy of all the skywatchers.
