April Theme Day - Yellow

London seems to have every street dug up at the moment. A lot is repairing/replacing the Victorian water pipes. Thames Water began this project in 2002. Scheduled to finish in 2010, however they now tell us it is going to take 30 years to complete.

Of course, as always, click here to view thumbnails for all participants in this theme day.

That's a massive infrastructure project - good ecomonic stimulus too.

You always seem to find something original to comply with the theme of the moment, be it "skywatching" or whatever.

I find that a remarkable example of intelligence, besides creativity of course.

They seem to have been digging the roads up round here since 2002 - and they show no signs of being finished!

Oh no, I was thinking of coming over for the Olympics... but not if they haven't replaced the pipes by then ;)

So many yellows!

I wonder if they'll last as long as the original ones?

I had a bit of yellow roadworks in mine today! Nice choice :)

Hi, Mo. Good yellow public works, taking three times longer than promised. As signs on these projects in the US sometimes say, your tax dollars at work. Hope you all aren't being too disrupted by the G 20 meeting.

To answer your question, the little things in my theme day picture are strips of yellow pepper. There shapes have been modified in Photoshop. But use your imagination.

This reminds me of a toy called a Tonka toy truck he had for years. Tough as old boots. Those roadworkers are obvioulsy on Manx time if it's going to take 30 years.

This is super! I'd never thought of such a shot in a million years! Posted out the book yesterday, hope you'll get it soon. Ciao. A.

Street digging always gets worse running up to April as Councils try to spend the money they have before the end of the year.

i guess like in america, construction work takes forever to complete in england too haha.

love your photos, by the way! keep up the good work!

Your stimulus money will create even more construction sites (smile).

Well, it's a great photo, but 30 years? I'm sure it is necessary, but that is a long time.

Cities are constantly regenerating themselves to the discomfort of the current inhabitants. Imagine the discomfort of the rebuilding after the Great Fire or the Blitz.
