It's all in the flick of the wrist. This is the season of conkers. A game between two people with the aim of striking your opponents conker.
At St Peter's church in Clerkenwell, Friday lunch time became the conker battle ground where teams fought to become champion.
I can report the girls won! Louise and her colleague were an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.
Let's hope they go on to the nationals. Yes that's right this game is serious. There are national championships!
If like me this game is new to you here is a site explaining how to play.

I could never get the hang of this when I was a child - but I used to go around with black fingers at this time of year from where I'd been hollowing out the conkers to make tea-cups for my dolls.

Or are they keeping the spiders at bay?
I used to love doing this as a child until my dad came a long and whacked us too hard with his conker - the it was no fun.
Never heard about it! But there's always something curious, extravagant, original, entertaining to be discovered in your pictures! Thanks Mo! I'll have a look at the link you suggest. Maybe I'll found the first Italian conker team! ;-)

Can't say I've heard about that, but then we ain't supposed to know about everything, no?
Thanks for the visit. Please return whenever you want.
Love conkers. Such a shame the horse chestnut trees are having such a hard time. I wonder whether they will be able to recover from the horrid beastie that's eating all their leaves.
I have just found out about conker fight a few weeks ago; As far as I know, we don't play it in France. That must be a british tradition! this looks like fun !
It must be autumn. Is this conker thing just a British thing?!
