The View is Great

A glass and steel shopping centre with all the same high st chain stores has opened next to St Paul's.
Why? One may ask. Gordon Ramsey is scheduled to open a restaurant on the top floor early next year. I took the lift up to check out progress.
Well I might not like anything else about the place, but the view, well it is simply spectacular.
This will become the new iconic view of London I suspect.

Real nice shot and to the left you can just see an arc of blue which will be the Eye; nice one.

I think I will have to ditch my resolution not to visit the UK any more because of the expensive visas they now charge - just to see this view! Beautiful photo. I think it will have to be your photo of the year!

I, too, was disappointed by the usual suspects filling this site. However, this view – even on a below-freezing evening before Christmas – is beautiful, invigorating and strangely quite calming, this last quality probably being absent among the throngs of admirers on a summer's evening. Although far from his best work, from the architect's (Jean Nouvel) perspective, this answers the brief given by the City Of London: tourists who have managed to climb to the top of St Paul's will see this roofscape animated by other visitors and might be encouraged to investigate the Square Mile for themselves, rather than making their way back to the tube or to the river. One architectural touch which I like is the glass at the base of the lift shaft which is so angled as to reflect St Paul's dome into the view of shoppers on the lower ground level. Other public views of London to look forward to: the viewing level in the Shard (higher than the London Eye) and the sky garden at the top of the Walkie-talkie.

Completely agree. We visited One New Change a few weeks back and I posted a couple pictures of the view. While the building itself seems a little... perfunctory?... the view is just stunning. And it's particularly lovely up at the top now because you are likely to have the whole deck to yourself!

That is indeed a lovely view. It'll undoubtedly be a big hit with all the international visitors for the Olympics in 2012.
