In 16th century Britain when the harvest was ready reapers would bring in a fully laden cart shouting "hooky hooky" and ask the crowd for money.
In America they have Thanksgiving, Sukkot is celebrated by the Jewish, the Chinese have the moon festival and then there is the German Emtedank.
What are the festivals and the traditions associated with them in your area or culture?

There seems to be pumkins around everywhere - getting ready for halloween. We still have a bit of 'Spring Fever' here. Todays weather was hot sun one minute & black clouds, thunder, lighting & heavy rain then it all dissapeared leaving lots of people steaming!
In India, different parts of the country have different festivals signifying harvest season. In my part (north) we celebrate Makar Sankranti in January (http://www.festivalsofindia.in/makarsankranti/) and Baisakhi in April (http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/religion/sikhism/baisakhi.shtml).
In Glasgow they throw empty beer cans out the windows.....
Good ol' Halloween here. Though this year our "celebration" seems to be cancelled thanks to Hurricane Sandy!

Halloween now and Thanksgiving in a few weeks. There will be lots of pumpkin pie eating going on.
It's an odd think that pumpkins have moved from Harvest to Halloween.
Thanksgiving's roots were in expressing gratitude for completing the harvest. Other celebrations are tied to the start of the harvest.
