May Bank Holiday and the Sun's Out

It's the May bank holiday weekend and what better way to celebrate the supposed official arrival of spring than with a festival or two. At Southbank there's a food festival showcasing "real" (as opposed to unreal I assume) food and beverages. No UK food festival is complete without oysters, and these are from the oyster capital, Whitstable. Little sweet morsels of the sea that transport you to the shore when you put them into your mouth. The chap with the blue bionic hand was anticipating opening 4000 plus during the festival.

This year the festival is also hosting the "Streets of Spain". Eleven stalls from the historic "La Boqueria" market from Barcelona. Stalls offering all the delicious goodies we associate with Spain, like Iberico ham , chorizo, cheese, olives, dried fruits, all ready to eat.  The free Spanish lesson are a bonus too!!

And what better way to continue your wanderings in the sun than with a drink in hand. Farmhouse organic whisky and soda or organic small batch gin and tonic, made with a range of botanicals foraged from the hedgerows in a secret (and unpronounceable) part of Wales. Delicious!!

Organic whisky?

A little sausage and cheese and a cool G & T sounds very good even though it's a bit early in the day here. I'll save the oysters to go with some champagne. I'm not sure why but, I've decided that champagne is the perfect accompaniment for oysters.

And hopefully you had a reasonable day for it, though yesterday was warmer.

I've just eaten dinner, but there's always room for a fresh oyster or two. Though I'm glad I've spared that poor man's hands from shucking mine. Can you imagine the beating his hands must take with that many oysters? Ooooh, and I'll take a Welsh gin and tonic, too. Sounds great.
