A Grim Week

Yesterday flags were flying at half-mast in empathy for the tragedy in Nice.  Last night many were killed in a failed coup in Turkey and last week hundreds were killed in a suicide bomb in Baghdad.

We are living in difficult times with no clear way out of this mess.  Violence and marginalising groups is not working, can we try something else please.  We need a true international peace maker to step up for the job.

Afghan Summer Festival

I ventured out to South Harrow to participate in the Afghan community summer festival.
It is always fun to see what activities are unique or special to different communities.  Without a doubt kite flying is the most popular activity.

First is the serious business of selecting the right kite. No matter if you are big boys or

little boys.

And not forgetting the girls.

Then the pure joy of having your kite fly higher than anyone else's.
