Imagine the smoke from coal fires billowing out of each of these ornate chimneys during Victorian times. Fires are banned in London now so the pea soup smog of those earlier times only exists in the stories in books.
I can't help but wonder how decorative the hearths are that these chimneys lead down to. Or if in fact they are still there, maybe they've long been removed and smooth walls have taken their place.
