Ted and SWMBO go shopping …

SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed  … according to her partner!!) is visiting from a far off land. Let’s go shopping she said. Off to Soho we went and I said “there’s a cool shoe shop with boots of all guises just down here”.  So in we went … and you already know what she bought right.  She had to have them as soon as she saw them.  They are made of stingray leather, and she calls them her “Stevie” boots.  When we got home she did the foreign exchange conversion and realised that she had paid the equivalent of a small potato farm in her currency, panicked, and made noises about taking them back to the shop.  I said “sleep on it”.  The next morning I said “so you ok about the shoes now?” ... she said “No … I had a nightmare, I dreamt I got them home and they were made of plastic and they had cracked”.

Ever the fast thinker I said “have you ever been to the Ropewalk at Maltby Street market over in Bermondsey, it’s great?”.  "Let’s bike over there on those Boris bikes" said SWMBO.  I panicked, and the Doll took me aside and gently said “you need to get over that last horrible experience with Boris and get back in the saddle … Homer … sorry I mean Ted”.  So I did … and off we went and we even biked over Tower Bridge!!!

Maltby Street started a few years back when a few of the vendors in Borough Market (the really really huge one at London Bridge) got, shall we say a little miffed, at market management and literally packed up their wares and went down the street and around the corner and around another corner and set up in Maltby street under the railway arches.

It has all sorts of wonderful things to eat and drink while you wander along, and of course good stuff to take home.

One of the most sought after edible items in London is a doughnut from the  St John Food & Wine bakery (handily located in Maltby Street) … these are the ones filled with chocolate.  The other flavour of the day was rhubarb (fantastic).  They are without a doubt the very best doughnuts in London!!! And I am not just saying that cos I like rhubarb.

.... and noooo rude comments ...ok ...
