Art for Sale

The London Art Fair is an annual event showcasing British art of all genres.  Loads of dealers selling art works with lots of zeroes as well as more affordable works.  On the top floor (where I spent most of my day) is the photography section.  Throughout the day there were talks and presentations from a variety of people in the industry, with the theme this year focusing on feminine, masculine.  Discussions included relationships, love, marriage and sex as well as a panel discussion on women in photography.

The fair is held at the Business Centre in Angel Islington and runs until January 24th.

Xmas Fair

Festivities at Leicester Square, rides, games with tacky prizes, hot dogs, candy floss, all the usual things.  But we all still love it.

Fun at the Fair

Who could resist an invitation to the fair and with a pocket full of pennies thrown in.  (Thanks bgo) The Carters steam fair lets you step back in time to the way the fun fair was in Victorian times.  The penny arcade, the rides and games are all beautifully hand painted and offer good old fashioned thrills.

Try your luck on the slot machines.

Feel the tension mounting trying to control that ball around the barriers.

Then just have fun on the dodgems.

Impress passersby with your strength.

Alice and Goose

Food stalls, bake offs, craft skills and dog shows, its all part of the London village summer fete.  Last weekend Alice and Goose were confident they would win the dog show at the Amwell St Fete.   How could the judges resist.

Sugar

The sweet stall at Winter Wonderland. As you pass by the food stalls the familiar smells of a fair fill the air, spun sugar, frying chips and onions.

Big Time Art

Not what I was expecting at the art car boot fair, but this event can be relied on for being wacky and different. You'll rub shoulders with some of the best contemporary artists, maybe pick up a great bargain and generally have a great time. Oh and this year pick up a tip or two about big time wrestling.

Sheep Drive on London Bridge

The building of old London Bridge was completed in 1209. Yesterday the current London Bridge was closed to traffic to hold the 8ooth anniversary fayre.
Part of the festivities included a sheep drive. The origins go back to medieval times when the freemen were permitted to drive their sheep across the bridge bringing them into market without having to pay the toll.
