The Victorian Baths

Following a £25 million refurbishment the old Victorian baths are now a state of the art sports centre.

Public baths were conceived  in the mid 1800's with the aim of providing washing facilities to the poor who didn't have them in their own homes.  There was even legislation that gave local authorities the power to commission public baths in their boroughs with the aim of "promoting the health and cleanliness of the working classes, and as a necessary consequence, improve their social condition and raise their moral tone, thereby, tendering them more accessible to and better fitted to receive religious and secular training.”

Poets and Bluegrass

Take a bus and get off somewhere interesting.  Such a fun thing to do in a city like London.  This adventure took me to Kentish town to a street of houses dating back to 1848 that has some interesting locals.  A bluegrass banjo player, a famous actor and the renown Torriano poets.

Interesting Loos - #1

Public loos can be a bit of a hit and miss affair, ranging from the "I think I'll hang on" to the "wow what a cool loo". I thought I'd start a wee series (pun intended) on some of London's quirkier loos.
This one in the Abbey Tavern in Kentish Town, not only had a fun little room but the stairs leading to it were equally fun, decorated as a rain forest.
