The Bridge

Vaxhaull Bridge as it looks today.  This bridge was officially opened in 1906 which makes it one of London's historic bridges.

However there has been a bridge here for a lot longer than a mere century as the plaque on the shore tell us:

The banks of the Thames there must be awash with ancient remains, large and small.

Great photo! You must have been standing right in front of where we stayed the other day.

So how do they know people threw spears in the water to please the gods as opposed to say, spear-fishing?

The notice is delightful. Although the Thames is wide it is, nowadays, tame. The idea of it having islands and overflowing and being a danger (well, in some ways it still is though that's not what one thinks of on first view) . . . a jolt to the imagination!

Incidentally, I think I've been remiss in letting all my Pictures Just Pictures followers know I now post at Message in a Milk Bottle
I've had a break over the summer and am back.
