the Lamppost and the Tower

They are not the same. A lamppost and the BT tower.  However at a distance a relationship can be created.  Is this how the David and Goliath concept began do you suppose.  Bravery at a distance that is hard to relinquish when you reach the destination and see the true size.   Recently my BT internet reception pales into insignifigance when compared with the light one receives from an ordinary street lamp.  Especially this week!

Getting up the BT tower these days is pretty much by invitation only, but once you get here look at that view!! It's like coming into land in a plane, and look how tiny the Shard (Europe's tallest building) looks in the distance.  I got there by virtue of the launch of the new BT home hub 4 which promises super fast wifi ... yippee.  I'll report back next week when mine arrives.

New Look BT

There is something different about the appearance of the BT Tower and it's not the count down to the Olympics. The satellite dishes have gone. The skinny bit in the middle used to be covered in giant dishes. Now that fibre optics has replaced the older microwave technology the dishes were redundant and because of their age a potential danger in falling. During last year they have gradually been removed. The last one coming down in December. A nicer looking tower now don't you think? See here for more information on the removal of the dishes.

Calling Cards

Most telephone boxes in London will have sex calling cards such as these covering the walls. Recently discussions have been around a 'clean-up' before the 2012 Olympics, police and local authorities concerned that tourists will think the city is full of sex booths rather than a telephone to call home.
