Sky Ride

Yesterday was the annual sky ride in London. Each year throughout Britain streets are given over to cyclists. The aim is to get more people on bikes, one million more by 2013 is the current ambition. Hardy cyclists braved heavy rain determined to enjoy themselves despite the weather. Makes me think that extra million is rather conservative.

Photo Friday - Wheels

According to a timeout survey, 51% of Londoners own a bike. An average of 450,000 cycle journeys are made each day.
That's a lot of wheels.
Take a look at other wheels on this weeks challenge on Photo Friday.

Tweed Run

Yesterday was the second annual event for the tweed run through the streets of London.
Dress code required according to the publicity blurb:

"Proper attire will of course be expected, so dapper gents and elegant ladies, polish off your lugged steel beasts and prepare your best outfits. Suggested attire: woolen plus fours, harris tweed jackets, flat caps, fair isle jumpers, alpaca coats, merino wool team jerseys, cycling skirts and perhaps a jaunty cape for the ladies, cravats or ties for gentlemen, and of course a hip flask of brandy."

All for a good cause too:

"There will also be a spiffing tombola draw for some lovely prizes benefiting bikes4africa, an organisation that refurbishes bicycles and gives them to rural African schools so that students who live far away can get to school"

Bikes

A common sight at the railway station. Bike from home to the railway station, you and your bike take the train to London, then you park your bike securely at the the London station while you work.

Skyride

Yesterday the streets of London were for cyclists only. Over 65,000 took up took advantage of the Mayor of London's skyride.
I had no idea there were that many bikes in the city. Singing and the ringing of bicycle bells are loads more fun than petrol fumes.

Don't forget my competition that is running at present to win yourself a pair of tickets to Brussels. It closes at midnight tomorrow. So make sure you get your entry in.
