Tax Time

Pretty lights and a smart building where one can find Her Majesty's revenue collectors.

Mean Machine

That's one mean machine repairing the road.  I've only seen steam rollers doing this work before. (what are they called now as they aren't run by steam but we still call them that?)  This one though looks like something out of a terminator movie.

Small Pub - Big Choice

It may be a tiny pub but it punches way above it weight in both selection of beers and interesting surroundings. This was one of the two lodges that sat either side of the grand arch that lead into Euston railway station. The grand arch was demolished during the redevelopment in the 1960's causing a huge public outcry at the time. Much of the original arch has been recovered from where it was dumped and there is a rumour it will be rebuilt as part of the next redevelopment of the station to accommodate the new fast rail.
In the meantime enjoy a boutique beer at this quaint drinking establishment.

Monopoly - Euston Road

Monopoly blue square. £100.

This was the new road in 1756 to provide a route for sheep and cattle to be driven to Smithfield Market. However it upset the Duke of Bedford as it cut off a bit of his estate. An act of Parliament was required to get it through.
Nowadays it is a main route (A501) and is the edge of the congestion zone (the part of the inner city that you have to pay to enter) as a result it one of the busiest inner city routes.

Lines and Shadows

Euston Square can look rather bleak and uninteresting. Not a place you would choose to wander around. Desperately hungry in search of a sandwich, I was suprised to find this rather stunning sculpture. The figure in the distance is a digital girl constantly walking.

Georgian Greek

The new St Pancras church on Euston Rd, built around 1820 based on the Greek Acropolis. These are the doors around the back leading to the crypt.
Delusions of grandeur?

Bikes

A common sight at the railway station. Bike from home to the railway station, you and your bike take the train to London, then you park your bike securely at the the London station while you work.

Toes

The detail of a statue on the new St Pancras church. New, as in built in the early 1800's. A wee design flaw exists in these figures. They were made a bit too high, so had to be squeezed in a bit in the middle to fit. feet are ok though.

Am away for a few days so wont be doing my usual visiting.
