Theme Day - out of focus

This month's theme for the City Daily Photo community is out of focus.  For me having something out of focus needs to have a purpose.  In my contribution to the theme day, I have used a slower shutter speed to make the people blurry to give a sense of how frenetic and busy London's underground can be.  The stairwell remains sharp so it is obvious the movement is deliberate and not a mistake.  See how others have interpreted the brief here.

Looking Down

"Looking Down" is the the first of the month theme for the City Daily Photography (CDP) community.  The Tate Modern has recently opened its new wing, a ten story addition that looks good from both the inside and the outside.  The viewing platform on the top floor enables 360 degrees of fabulous gazing up, out and down.  This particular view looks down on the south side.

Shadow and Highlight

Last year I took you for a trip around the old flour mills in Silvertown, I'm taking the opportunity to show you one of the abstract images I took on that visit for the CDP theme of shadows and highlights.   Light and shadows reflected in a puddle on one of the floors

Other interpretations of the City Daily Photo (CDP) community's monthly theme of shadow and highlight can be seen here.

Theme Day - A Sense of Belonging

A sense of belonging was the challenge set for the City Daily Photo members for this months first of the month theme.

I chose an image I had taken at Pride in 2015 as for me it sums up the diversity of Londoners and the city I have come to love and call home.

See here how others in the CDP community have met the challenge

Theme Day - Workers

Capture workers in your city, is the theme for the City Daily Photo (CDP) community this month.  A bit of pomp and ceremony to go hand in hand with workers is my contribution.

Theme Day - Landmark

One of London's newer landmarks, the nicknamed walkie scorchie building.  So named after it melted    parts of a city boy's posh car. Read this post for the story.

As it is the first of the month the city daily photo community choose a theme.  This month it is landmark.  To see other city landmarks visit here.

Squares

The City Daily Photo community has chosen the theme "squares" for May's theme day.  Other's intepretation can be viewed here.

My contribution is a reflection of Trafalgar Square through the "squarish" (no corrections from the mathematicians please) window panes of the National Gallery.

December Theme - Looking Out

Looking out from London to the last stop on the District tube line going west is the village of Richmond.  Looking out towards the river is this memoriam to those who lost their lives - looking out for one another and their country, during the two world wars.

See other interpretations of looking out here on the CDP portal.

November Theme Day - Heights

The City Daily Photo (CDP) community has decided the theme of today's photo is height.  My contribtion is a view from BT tower.  It is a difficult tower to get permission to enter so I was excited to be invited to an event last July.  Although it was a hazy day the view was still spectacular.  The easiest landmarks to pick out are the Shard to the right (the pointy pyramid building) and the cluster of tall buildings to the left include the gherkin, the cheese grater and the walkie scorchie.  All local nicknames for the city towers.

Theme Day - Street Lights

Not strictly streetlights, but so pretty they ought to be included in this months Daily City Photo Communities monthly theme of "street lights".  The Royal Arcade is one of the oldest in London and as yet still undiscovered by tourists.  The chocolatier to the queen is just one of the specialist shops you'll find as you stroll through.

Theme Day- Beauty in Decay

In  the midst of the decay around her this swan has built her nest. How long does it take for swan eggs to hatch? Do you know?
As it is the first of the month the City Daily Photo Community selects a theme for the photo.  Today is decay in beauty.  See here how others have interpreted the theme.
