Theme Day - Cafe Chairs

The City Daily Photo Community theme for March is cafe chairs.  If you take a stroll down Edgeware Road you will find lots of cafes like this one with a row of seating and customers smoking shisha, a pleasant smelling flavoured tobacco.
Take a look at cafe chairs around the world.

On another note; there is a problem with the way that posts are viewed in explorer.  I believe this is to do with the way that blogger now imports photos.  Viewing is fine in firefox and chrome.  Has anyone found a resolution to this conflict?

April Theme Day - Cobblestones

Every month the CityDailyPhoto (CDP) community hosts a theme day. This month is cobblestones.
Due to that tiresome community out there in cyberworld the CDP portal was hacked during March. The technical team is working feverishly to bring it back to us.
In the meantime Julie of Sydney Eye has set up a linky for us to join for this month's theme day.
Good on ya Julie.
My contribution to cobblestones is the courtyard at Somerset House.

March Theme Day - Electricity

This month's CityDailyPhoto (CDP) theme for a photo is electricity.

I've brought you an image of the Savoy Theatre. This grand building first opened in October 1881. Impressive for its grandeur but also impressive as it was the first public building in the world to be lit entirely by electricity. When? 1889!

It was revamped in 1929 and then rebuilt again in 1993 due to fire.

January 2012 - Best of 2011

Traditionally on the first day of the New Year those of us at CDP post a copy of our best image of the previous year. I don't know that this was my best but it was one that you all seemed to like. I'll probably be looking a bit like this after my Bollywood dancing last night - pink that is! I have preposted this as I have no intention of getting up early today. Besides I'm probably still out on the town kicking up my heels, and welcoming in 2012.

January Theme Day - Best of 2010

Happy new year to you all.
First day of a new year 1.1.11 and and a look back to bring you the best of 2010.
A hard choice, should it the most popular, what I liked, or something quintessentially English?

I opted for the latter.

December Theme Day - Time

Time:
Today is post 1000 for aglimpseoflondon.
As the first of the month it is also theme day for CDP bloggers this month is time. So I did a little research to see what happened in London 1000 years ago.

What I found was that a bloke who became known as St Edmund the Martyr who was king of East Anglia, becoming a saint shortly after his death in 869 he died in battle fighting the heathens. As was the case in these days bodies of the dead were frequently moved to keep them safe or in one piece. Well it appears that in the year 1010 his body was carried through creplegate (later spelled cripplegate) on route to St Gregory's Church.

Cripplegate was one of the gates in London wall, which I discovered stood on the part of London Wall Rd where it intersects Wood Rd. This now leads into the Barbican Estate.

Just inside the Barbican at this point stands St Giles Church. You were wondering how I was going to weave my photo into this story weren't you. St Giles church was originally built in 1090, named after the patron saint of cripples and beggars. They all hung out around this part of the city, hence the name of the this gate in the wall.
Much of this area was heavily bombed in the WWII. Amazingly St Giles survived.

September Theme Day - Markets

Covent garden is one of the most famous markets in the world. It is known a fruit and vege market has been here since 1630. However archaeological digs in recent years points to activity here around AD 410.
